250th Anniversary Special Events

Sip & Stitch | October 19, 2023

5:30 – 8:30pm

Guests are invited to BYOB along with their own needlework project for an evening of crafting and community.  The gathering features a guest speaker sharing a new sewing technique and offering beginner-friendly projects.  Expect Betsy, herself, to drop in to see everyone’s work and perhaps stitch alongside the guests.   The series continues in November and picks up in March.  The Sip & Stitch series is free, but advance registration is required  and available HERE

Tipsy History: A Love Story | November 3, 2023

5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30pm

Celebrate the 250th  anniversary of John and Betsy Ross’s November 1773 marriage with this special program.  Guests will hear a love story for the ages when they meet a young Betsy just after her elopement with husband John.  She faces the condemnation of her Quaker community for marrying outside her religion.  Will she choose faith and family or true love?  The program continues in the House with a special love-themed tour and a delicious, handcrafted “love potion”  cocktail.

Tours, which run about 75 minutes, are timed to keep groups small, and early ticket purchase is recommended.

Tickets are $25 per person and must be purchased in advance HERE

Betsy's Birthday Bash | December 31, 2023

Celebrate the 271st anniversary of the birth of America’s most famous flag maker with a day of storytelling, crafts and, of course, cake. More details to come.

Meet the History Makers: Black History Month | Saturdays & Sundays in February, 2024

11am – 3pm

Meet prominent members of Colonial Philadelphia’s free Black community each Saturday of the month and on Sundays, Once Upon A Nation Storytellers share short tales highlighting the Black experience in 18th century Philadelphia. More details to come.

Meet the Women of the 18th Century | Saturdays & Sundays in March, 2024

11am – 3pm

In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Betsy Ross House highlights colonial women who represent the racial, religious, social and political diversity of the city in the 1700s.  Visitors will find out that colonial Philadelphia had a lot in common with the modern city of today!  Guests might meet chocolate maker Mary Crathorne, Peggy Chew, a local socialite; cake baker, Margaret Woodby; and Susanna Cook, a washerwoman. They’ll hear about their lives, their families, their careers … and maybe try their hands at their trades.

Once Upon A Nation Storytelling | May 25 - September 2, 2024

Specially trained storytellers share little-known tales about Betsy Ross and other 18th-century women at the courtyard’s Storytelling Bench.  The short, interactive stories appeal to all ages.  The complete schedule will be available HERE in early 2024.

First Friday Movie Night Under the Stars & Stripes | June 7, 2024

Flag Fest 2024 | June 11 - 17, 2024

10am – 5pm

The annual celebration of National Flag Week features free programming daily, including an interactive flag history presented by Betsy Ross, herself, the chance to meet other 18th-century women and learn about their lives, and much more. Flag Day, June 14, features a naturalization ceremony and the opportunity to meet the flag makers from the Defense Logistics Agency, who embroider Presidential flags right here in Philadelphia. Stars & Stripes Saturday | June 17, 2024

10am – 5pm

This daylong, family-friendly festival in the House’s courtyard is the culmination of Flag Fest and features entertainment, from magic, to puppet shows to circus acts, along with old-time carnival games and more.  Complete details will be available spring 2024.

Patriotic Pet Parade | July 4, 2024

11am

Pets of all kinds are invited to arrive in their most patriotic paraphernalia to compete for prizes awarded by local celebrity judges including Betsy Ross, of course.  Registration details will be available spring 2024.
